Information & Advice Volunteer Opportunities

We offer an Information and Advice Service which is available to older people within the boundaries of Bristol.

This role requires dedicated and reliable voluntary help, preferably for one day (or more) each week. The role would suit non-employed individuals looking for experience to return to work, students wishing to work in this field, part-time workers, retired people or those with time to spare who would like to contribute their listening and form filling skills, especially with filling in benefit forms.

For students, in return for a voluntary placement with us we can offer you training for the role to gain experience and knowledge of the problems faced by older people in our society. This can contribute towards coursework and future employment.

Admin Volunteer Opportunities

We are looking for someone to help out with general administrative duties around the office. If you have some administrative experience and would like to volunteer for approximately 4 hours a week we would love to hear from you.

Volunteer Receptionist (ad hoc cover)

Flexible and on an ad hoc basis

At Age Concern Bristol we are looking for a volunteer to cover our reception on a flexible/ad hoc basis, to cover holidays, sickness and other busy periods. If you have general office skills and strong customer service skills, we would love to hear from you.

Volunteers are needed to help raise much needed funds for Age Concern Bristol. Volunteers will lead and promote fundraising events and activities, intergenerational activities and volunteer events.

Practical Services Volunteer Opportunities

Volunteer Gardeners

We offer a gardening service to help older people with their gardening needs.

We are looking for people to join our volunteer gardeners to help us continue to provide this useful service.

Volunteer Handy People.

We carry out small jobs around the home with a team of volunteer handy people based across the city. We are looking for people to join our handy people team to help us provide this important service.

Practical Services Admin Volunteer (Mondays)

The role involves dealing with phone enquiries from older people, and recording information manually and on a computer. If you would enjoy working in a busy office environment, have a good understanding of the needs of older people and strong customer service skills, we would love to hear from you.

Telephone Shopper Volunteers

Age Concern Bristol is currently recruiting a team of volunteers to take part in our brand new telephone shopping scheme.

Volunteers will telephone an older person to take a weekly shopping list, and then place the order for them using supermarket online shopping services.

Link-up Volunteer Opportunities

Do you have some free time to work with older people in your own neighbourhood? Then we need you. Link Up volunteers provide information and support on a 1 to 1 basis to older people who have lost confidence and become isolated within their community.

We are also launching a new Telephone Befriending Scheme:

Could you spare some time to chat with an older person on the telephone?

We are now recruiting Telephone Befriending Volunteers who will support an older isolated person with a weekly telephone call. If you have good communication skills and an understanding of the needs and aspirations of older people, we would love to hear from you.

Training and support will be available to allow you to carry out this role.

Volunteers will make befriending calls from an office at The Withywood Centre every Tuesday from 10am -12 noon.

Day Centre Volunteer Opportunities

Dayservice Kitchen Volunteer

Our Dayservice is looking for a volunteer to help our cook at The Withywood Centre for a couple of hours a day for a few days a week.

The role involves basic food preparation and dish washing.

 

There are opportunities for volunteers at our New Beginnings Day Service in Withywood to provide support and general help. The Day Service enables older people maintain their independence and supports them with an activity programme which includes arts, crafts, exercises, cooking and gardening.

Insurance and Trading Volunteer Opportunities

Marketing Volunteer

Age Concern Bristol is looking for a Marketing Volunteer to make local contacts with older people in order to create an awareness of our trading products (e.g. Lottery, Energy, Funereal Plans, Aid Call Alarms).

Basic Footcare Volunteers

We are working with Bristol City Council and NHS Bristol to set up a basic foot care service for older people across the city.  We are now looking for volunteers to provide this service in either Bishopsworth and/or Lawrence Weston, one morning a week.  Training in basic foot care will be given.

Trustee Opportunities

Would you consider joining our Board of Trustees? If you have:

Commitment to enabling older people to live as independently as possible in their own homes.

The time to support a growing organisation.

The skills to assist in setting the long term direction of the charity and strategy.

The ability to offer independent judgement.

Personal and professional integrity.

Trustees can be part of the Board which meets every four months to review our activities or offer their knowledge skills on the Finance & General Purpose Group which meets on the third Monday of each month. This group deals with issues arising from the day to day management of the organisation such as budget reviews, staffing matters and income generation.

Travelling expenses incurred on behalf of the organisation are reimbursed.
