An Octogenarian Love Story at the Bristol Old Vic...
The words are Shakespeare’s. The story you will remember from the original play…
…But our lovers are 80 years old, and it’s their anxious children, not their parents, who are seeking to prevent an imprudent and costly match.
This Spring sees Tom Morris, Artistic Director at Bristol Old Vic, direct a brand new version of Juliet and her Romeo. With Sian Phillips as Juliet and Michael Byrne as Romeo, this production invites a generation of actors of global stature to play great Shakespearean roles which they never thought they’d play again. Tim Barlow, Terry Taplin and Michael Medwin return to Bristol Old Vic as Tybalt, Benvolio and Paris. Dudley Sutton makes his debut on this stage as Mercutio.
‘With Morris at hand, there’s nothing to stop Bristol turning into a powerhouse of British theatre.’ The Guardian
The production asks questions about what do we do as our parents become older and frailer? Who will look after them? Where will they live? Who will pay for their care?
‘Exhilarating. It makes you rejoice to be alive.’ The Times on War Horse, directed by Tom Morris and Marianne Elliott for The National Theatre.
